Vodafone to quit Facebook’s Libra Association
Vodafone and Libra both confirmed Tuesday the company is no longer part of the governing council for Libra. Vodafone has become the eighth company to pull out of the Libra Association.
While Libra originally intended to launch early 2020, uncertainty arose when Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg spoke about regulatory concerns that might push back the date.
Six Central Banks to collaborate on digital currency research
The central banks of Canada, the UK, Japan, EU, Sweden and Switzerland created a group with the BIS to jointly research central bank digital currencies.
“The group will assess CBDC use cases; economic, functional and technical design choices, including cross-border interoperability; and the sharing of knowledge on emerging technologies.” — Bank of England
Bitcoin hovers around 8.600 USD
After Bitcoin fell from 9.200 USD to the 8.500 USD level, the biggest cryptocurrency surged slightly to 8.600 USD and hovers around it since.
