Russian Ministry wants to legalize Bitcoin mining in specific areas

Amid the Russian government continuing working hard to come up with cryptocurrency regulations, a federal ministry has made another proposal regarding the crypto mining industry.

After Putin explicitly mentioned the Russian advantage in the mining market, the dynamics seem to shift.

Russia’s Ministry of Economic Development has greenlighted the concept of crypto mining regulation in the country, proposing to allow mining operations in areas with “sustainable surplus in electricity generation,” local news agency Izvestia reported Tuesday.

As part of the proposal, the ministry suggested introducing lower fees for setting up mining farms and data centers in specific Russia’s areas as well as offering reduced energy rates for such facilities.

Bitcoin hashrate climbs to new high

Bitcoin’s hash rate has continued its recent climb to new highs. Coming out of the weekend, bitcoin has recorded a significant spike in its hash rate, leading to a new high of 248.11TH/s in a period of 24 hours.

It is expected that bitcoin’s hash rate will continue to rise as more players move into the mining industry. Intel recently announced to launch their very first mining ASIC.

Uber CEO says they will accept Bitcoin “at some point”

In an interview with Bloomberg, the CEO from Uber, Dara Khosrowshahi has said that the company has been having internal discussions about cryptocurrencies “all the time.”

The CEO has revealed that the Uber platform intends to “absolutely” accept Bitcoin (and other cryptos) “at some point” in the future.

However, Khosrowshah has also said that now isn’t the “right point” for it. The high transfer fees and the negative environmental effects of mining cryptocurrencies are some of the reasons behind the platform not accepting Bitcoin just yet.
