Stellar listed on Coinbase

Coinbase has announced that they will be adding Stellar Lumens (XLM) to it’s Pro version of the platform. Users were able to start depositing XLM since 13:00 PT yesterday and full trading should soon go live. After presenting a new logo yesterday, there are also rumors floating around the internet that Stellar will have another “big announcement” to make at the Money 20/20 Conference in Asia, which will start in around a week. The Price of XLM has reacted positively to all these announcements and is up around 7% in the last 24 hours, regaining the 7th place in total market cap on Coinmarketcap.

Crypto enters the world of football

Crypto exchange Coindeal has partnered up with English football team Wolverhampton Wanderers. The exchange’s logo will now feature prominently on the teams kit, which currently ranks 7th in the highest English football league. The exchange already published a promotional video with some of the teams most famous players. The video went semi-viral, reaching around 400,000 clicks and it will be interesting to see what kind of impact the millions of football fans will have on the exchange.

Gatecoin ceases operation

Gatecoin, the well known exchange from Hong Kong has ceased its operations with a statement on their website this morning

The exchange states they had issues with their Payment Service Provider (PSP), which led to financial difficulties for the exchange

Ripple denies allegations of bribery

Miguel Vias, the head of XRP markets has denied allegations of paying off Coinbase to list XRP on the cryptocurrency exchange. The accusations were made by larger parts of the crypto community, that in general is very skeptic of the Ripple project. Main reasons for the accusations were the fact that Ripple still has a pending $166,7 million lawsuit against it and that Coinbase was very hesitant to List XRP in the past due to this fact.

China is the country with the most blockchain patents

A study conducted by The Next Web has found out that China is the country with the most listed blockchain patents in the world. This comes as quite a surprise as cryptocurrencies are banned there, but apparently that didn’t stop the innovation. In total 790 patents are listed, with only the United States coming close with 762.

Renewed scrutiny surrounding Tether USD backing claims

Developers behind stablecoin Tether have drawn scrutiny today after removing a claim from their website that every single USDT token had an equivalent of USD in the bank. Rumours about the company not owning these reserves have been travelling around the internet for a long time already and are soon expected to spark again. Tether has yet to make a statement on the allegations.

Verdict due in MtGox bitcoin embezzlement case

Mark Kapeles, 33 year old french entrepreneur and former head of collapsed crypto exchange MT.Gox, will learn his fate tomorrow as a Tokyo court will make its verdict. Kapeles is alleged to have repeatedly manipulated computer data over several years while embezzling a total of 341 million yen ($3 million) of client money. If found guilty, Kapeles could be facing up to 10 years in jail.
