North Korea To Hold Its Second Crypto Conference, Bitcoin Index Provider Wins First Crypto Benchmark License in EU and Bitcoin Reclaims Price Above 10.000 USD
Here is your daily overview of interesting, important and market moving cryptonews.
North Korea Will Be Holding Its Second Crypto Conference
After the first crypto and blockchain conference in April 2019, which attracted 100 people, a larger second conference was promised. This event will take place coming February 2020. The conference will run from Feb. 24–25 and be held at the Pyongyang Science and Technology Complex.
The 2020 event is being sponsored by the Spanish Korean Friendship Association and organized by the North’s Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries.
North Korea has been accused of stealing about $2 billion worth of crypto currencies and using them to support its weapons development. On a less obviously sinister level, conferences are a roundabout way for North Korea to boost tourism.
CME’s Bitcoin Index Provider Wins First Crypto Benchmark License in EU
CF Benchmarks has become the first cryptocurrency index provider to be recognized as a Benchmark Administrator under the European Benchmarks Regulation (EU BMR).
The U.K.’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) authorized CF Benchmarks as an administrator on Friday, affirming that financial institutions can use the company’s indices in any European financial products after the BMR takes full effect on Jan. 1, 2020.
Sui Chung, CEO of CF Benchmarks — which notably provides the indices used by CME Group for its bitcoin futures contract — told CoinDesk that this marks a first for cryptocurrency companies in the EU.
Bitcoin Reclaimed Its Place Above 10.000 USD
The Bitcoin price fell below 10.000 USD the last two days, but the price has reclaimed its place above 10.000 USD and is currently trading around 10.350 USD.
