Coinbase reports $1.8 billion in revenue, 56 million verified accounts
As major cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase prepares to start trading publicly on Nasdaq, it announced its first quarter estimated results and outlook for 2021 as a whole.
Its net income for the quarter is estimated at between $730 million to $800 million, with total revenue of approximately $1.8 billion — up from about $190.6 million in the first quarter of 2020.
It estimates its verified user count for the quarter to be 56 million (up from 43 million at the end of 2020), with 6.1 million counted as monthly transacting users (MTUs). It estimates its first quarter trading volume at $335 billion.

First professional sports team to offer players salaries in Bitcoin
Vivek Ranadivé, chairman and CEO of Sacramento Kings, announced on Monday that all their players and staff now have the option to choose to get their salaries paid in bitcoin rather than USD. This move will make the NBA franchise the first pro sports team to offer bitcoin salaries.
The Sacramento Kings has shown the most crypto-forward approach among all other pro sports teams. Back in 2014, the NBA team partnered with payment processor BitPay to introduce BTC as a payment solution for tickets, and merchandise.

UNICEF receives $400,000 bitcoin donation Charity
The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has received a bitcoin donation worth nearly $400,000 from Huobi Charity.
Huobi Charity told The Block that it donated 7 BTC to UNICEF “in the second half of Q1 2021” when 1 BTC was priced at around $50,000. At current prices, the 7 BTC is worth about $405,000.
Huobi Charity said it has committed a total of $1 million to UNICEF in bitcoin and USD. The rest of the funds will be donated over three years, the firm added.
