AT&T Team Up With Bitpay
AT&T, one of the largest telecom provider in the United States, serving over 15 million people, is teaming up with crypto payment provider Bitpay. Currently it is only possible to pay phone bills with crypto, however it could be possible that the service will be extended to other uses in the future. Cybercriminals have managed to hack into 10,000 city owned computers and installed ransomware, demanding $100,000 in Bitcoin to unlock the computers again. The city, which already is in a weak financial state is refusing to pay the ransom, however it is also not equipped to crack the ransomware, meaning that large parts of the city’s administration is down, which could translate into chaos. The repute of Bitcoin has repeatedly taken hits by these types of actions, however the continuing upwards movement shows that the network has matured and is not taking hits by bad press anymore.
